Air Conditioning and Refrigeration



NATURE OF THE WORK AND JOB OPPORTUNITIES

This occupation involves practical application of refrigeration in all branches of domestic and commercial air conditioning, including heat pumps, automotive air conditioners, thermoelectric, special devices and application, using up-to-date methods of installing, maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing. The occupational outlook is very bright for the refrigeration and air conditioning industry and is especially good for residential mechanics throughout the 1990's.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course will provide students with the knowledge and skills they will need to obtain entry-level positions in the refrigeration and air conditioning industry. All aspects of the trade are covered including design, manufacturing, and service. The course provides classroom theory for those employed in an apprenticeship program. The proram will provide the student with an opportunity to acquire an understanding of heating and ventilation and an in-depth understanding of refrigeration and air conditioning.
SUBJECTS TAUGHT
CERTIFICATION
A Kanawha County Schools Vocational Certificate is issued upon completion of the requirements of this program.
REQUIREMENTS FOR CLASS
Students enrollng must be 18 years of age or older and out of school at least one semester with a high school diploma or the equivalent. Keyboarding skills are helpful.
LENGTH OF PROGRAM
The length of the program is 11 months. Classes meet from 3 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Classes start in August and run through June. They run in compliance with the Kanawha County Schools in regards to school closings.
